Guild Wars 2 accounts compromised
Ever since Guild Wars 2 was released around 2 weeks ago (August 28th) there has been a non-stop stream of hackers trying to get the account information from the players, and has been somewhat successful!
As the newest MMORPG, Guild Wars 2 has received a lot of attention and this does include all those lovely hackers out there. Over 11.000 accounts have been hacked. But as far as I can read and find, it’s not Guild Wars own servers that have been hacked, but the e-mail and password for the accounts have been accessed through other websites, where people use the same e-mail and/or password (who would be stupid enough to do that, right?)
“Hackers have lists of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and websites, and collected through spyware, and are systematically testing ‘Guild Wars 2’ looking for matching accounts”
But as every company who has experienced an attack, they do handle it quite well and professionally. They called in several people to handle the customer support and obviously working on securing the accounts that have been hacked and trying to prevent future attacks.
They do recommend that you change your password. Other than that you can find more information on their website and here.
But lets hope the damage will be limited and the people affected will get their account back!
But that is about it for now, Mike is over and out!
I probably should have tipped you off about this a little earlier, didn’t even think to. I realised My GC2 account was compromised when I had an email saying I’d changed my account email, and was being asked to confirm this.
Strange that, since I don’t *HAVE* a GC2 account.
